Today is the day it gets real. So much so that it is often called “Spy Wednesday.” Today is the day that satan entered Judas and he betrayed Jesus.
Judas was a chosen follower. Hand-picked and given a front row seat to Jesus’ teachings and miracles. He saw the way Jesus loved and cared for the sick and hurting. He witnessed Jesus’ rebuke and pronouncement of eight woes over the Pharisees. Judas knew Jesus!
So why would Judas betray Jesus? Because the enemy used him to hand Jesus over to the High Priest. Judas suggested it, asked for payment, and looked for the opportunity. Satan used Judas. But, when the plan was carried out and Jesus was condemned, Judas felt deep remorse. However, remorse is not repentance.
Judas could have turned to Jesus. Confessed. Sought forgiveness. But, satan’s darkest plan is to accuse us. Convince us that it’s hopeless and there’s no going back. He wants us to give up and walk in shame.
BUT, Jesus offers forgiveness. There’s no sin so deep that He cannot save us. He wants to deliver us not only from our sin but also the shame. We don’t have to live in the guilt and burden of it. And, we certainly don’t have to live under satan’s accusations.
Judas could not bear the burden of his sin and neither do we!
