Jesus' words to us yesterday were meaty! In John 8:12-59, He has a discourse in the Temple with the Pharisees. It starts with a testimony of who He is and, as expected, it ends with the Pharisees picking up stones. It's much like the conversations we see today.
Jesus gives them TRUTH and testifies that:
He is Light
He knows where He came from and where He is going
He does not judge according to the flesh
His judgements are true
He is sent from the Father
He speaks what He hears from the Father
He does what pleases The Father
He is TRUTH
He seeks the glory of The Father
The Father glorifies Him
He is I AM
This is such an important teaching moment not only for the Jewish leaders but for us. Because, it is THE TRUTH that makes us free (John 8:32)
Free from darkness
Free from sin and death
Free from bondage
Free from the lies of the devil
Just like Pilate in John 18:38, we want to know "What is TRUTH?". In John 17:17, Jesus said to The Father, "Your Word is TRUTH." How can we take the WORD and narrow it down to the TRUTH that will set us FREE?
The TRUTH of the Word is: CHRIST DIED FOR YOU!
Saturday, October 12, 2024 was the High Holy Day of Judaism. The Day of Atonement when the sins of the people are forgiven. Under the Old Covenant, when the Temple was still standing in Jerusalem, the High Priest would go into the Holy of Holies and offer a blood sacrifice for the nation. The blood of bulls and goats was sprinkled on the Ark of the Covenant behind the veil in the Most Holy Place. On Yom Kippur, the High Priest would intercede for the people. Leviticus 16 - Day of Atonement
But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things having come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made by hands, that is, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all time, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:11-14)
So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. (Heb 9:28)
We have been delivered from darkness and can walk in freedom from sin and death because Jesus tells us in John 8:36, "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."
Love you all,
Sonya
